Menstruation is a natural biological process that every woman and girl goes through each month for about half of her life. A phenomenon that is so significant that the survival and reproduction of specie depend upon it. Yet we consider it a taboo. We feel awkward and shameful talking about it.
I was told to keep it a secret from others when I got my first periods, and later when this chapter appeared in textbooks, our biology teacher skipped the section. This taught me that it is shameful to talk about menses and made me ashamed of my body. I learned to stay unaware of periods to stay decent.
