Starting University can be an exciting and very challenging experience at the same time.

It’s the time when you actually have to come out of your comfort zone to become more practical and accountable for yourself by initiating personal efforts to develop both your academic and social lives.

Here are some of the tips and hacks which will help you thrive in your first year at University.

Appear in your teacher’s good books

University professors will never spoon-feed you like your high school teachers. Your instructor expects you to complete every single task on your own. Make sure to completely engage yourself during class activities and try to participate, as your CP can have a significant impact on your GPA. Before each lesson, do a cursory reading to ensure that you are not caught off guard during the lecture. Make sure you don't miss out on any lessons and that you take notes throughout lectures. Always strive to maintain a positive reputation in front of your teacher and always try to appear in their good books. Also, try to take full advantage of your teacher's appointment feature and schedule meetings with your professors during their office hours to clear up any questions you may have.

Manage your Budget

The most important thing you need to take care of in University, especially when you are living in a dorm is your Budget. You have to be really cautious of your budget. Utilize your money wisely, do not spend all your money and savings in one place. Before you go shopping, jot down the things that you need so that you won’t spend money on useless things. Always try to utilize your money on your necessities first, including stationery supplies, food, and toiletries, and then spend the spare amount on whatever you prefer. This way, you can keep track of your expenses and see where you're overspending your money, so that you won’t run out of budget at the end of the day.

Take out some time for Socializing

Socializing is an important part of your university life. In your freshman year try to interact with as many people as you can, and do not feel shy to be the first to start the conversation. Become an active participant in the societies and clubs of your interest, this will allow you to meet with new people with similar interests while boosting your leadership and communication abilities at the same time.

Enhance your time management skills

Time management is a very important aspect of your university life. You need to learn how to get things done on time. You are bombarded with so many assignments, quizzes, presentations, and other tasks over a short period of time that it becomes difficult to keep track of everything. Learning time management is the greatest approach to tackle this problem. Keep a checklist of your to-do list in a notebook so you don't forget anything. You'll need to manage your time in a way so that you can balance your social and academic lives and devote equal effort to both. Allow yourself some time to unwind and enjoy yourself or with your friends over the weekends.
